UWAY
The UW-Milwaukee Youth Wind Ensemble (UWAY), est. 1982, and Youth Percussion Program provide woodwind, brass and percussion students in grades eight through twelve the opportunity to rehearse and perform traditional and contemporary repertoire with other like-minded musicians. Students are led by artist-faculty from the Peck School of the Arts at UW-Milwaukee. |
YWOW
The Youth Wind Orchestra of Wisconsin (YWOW) had its debut set of concerts in the 2003-04 season. Created to complement and support high school bands throughout the Southeast Wisconsin area, the Youth Wind Orchestra is a regional honors band that rehearses one evening per week during the regular school year (Thursdays). The Youth Wind Orchestra consists of highly motivated, talented high school students selected by audition for membership. |
WSMA State Honors Music Project
Started in 1967, the WSMA State Honors Music Project provides musically talented students with an opportunity to rehearse and perform with the nation’s finest conductors in a professional, highly disciplined setting. Selected through a rigorous audition process, students are challenged to perform at their musical best throughout the short rehearsal period, which culminates with a performance in October at the Wisconsin State Music Conference held in Madison each year. Both Middle-Level State Honors and High School State Honors are offered. |
Milwaukee Music Festival High School Honor Band
The Milwaukee Music Festival High School Honor Band brings together an ensemble of gifted and like-minded musicians from Wisconsin and surrounding states for a weekend of rehearsals, master classes, and performances with UW-Milwaukee students, faculty artists (including members of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra) at UWM’s Helene Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts. All interested high school band students, grades 9-12, are invited to audition. The annual Milwaukee Music Festival (MMF) High School Honor Band returns in November with internationally renowned composer Frank Ticheli as their guest conductor. |
Bands of America (BOA)
Music for All is one of the largest national music education organizations in support of active music-making. Music for All’s Bands of America (BOA) marching band championships provide the premier events for marching band in the nation. BOA’s marching band shows offer positively life-changing experiences for the students, teachers, and parents of the bands who participate, as well as fans and spectators. |
